About
David Stevens
I first became involved with electronic and tape music when I was at school in Leicestershire, making an electronic synthesiser (with the help of a more technically gifted friend) and creating music pieces for dance and school orchestra.
In London I dropped out of music college to work for EMS synthesisers (organising and running the demonstration suite in Putney) and later running a tape and electronic music class at the Cockpit Theatre in Marylebone.
I worked at Capital Radio for ten years. While I was there, I recorded, edited and produced radio programmes, documentaries and drama. And I also recorded, mixed and produced live and studio-based music recordings – pop, rock, “third world”, and classical music.
After I left Capital I worked as a sound engineer in television, before moving on to writing and recording music for television programmes such as Small Objects of Desire (BBC2) and The Experimenter (BBC Education).
At this time I also started creating specialised music software and performing live improvisations with computer and instrumentalists. It was this work which lead to the creation of the Music for Special Needs project which I have been running for Eyemusic for the last few years.

The Nettlefold Festival Trust, a charitable trust registered in England, was founded in 1988, with the purpose of presenting contemporary music, and related arts and educational events, in innovative ways. Since 1989 we have worked in close collaboration with Cwmni Colourscape, the renowned artistic partnership of Peter Jones and Lynne Dickens, to create the Colourscape Music Festivals and other events combining visual and aural arts. Education and audience development have always been at the core of our activities.
